Hunter White Safe Spring Break Program

In 2001, Hunter White was killed in a rollover accident in Rocky Point on Spring Break where alcohol was involved. Since that time, and due to the generosity of friends and family and the Phoenix and Tucson communities, his story has been told every year in an effort to educate and prevent the same tragedy from impacting students lives and their families.

The Hunter White Safe Spring Break Program is put on every year just before Spring Break in an effort to tell Hunters' Story and to keep students safe and remind them to make smart choices on their spring break trips. The program has had a variety of speakers each year and is always kicked off with telling Hunters' story by his family and friends. To date the program has been presented to over 7,000 students and has had a long lasting impact.

The Hunter White Safe Spring Break Program has been tremendously successful reaching students since its inception in 2008. Students who participate in the program report increased knowledge of crucial safety information, as well as how to provide support to others. This knowledge directly results in a safer, healthier campus for students and safer spring break behavior.

In 2014, an endowment named The Hunter White Safe Spring Break Endowment, was established to support the program in perpetuity. The Safe Spring Break program is hosted by the Fraternity and Sorority Programs and is funded through the support of the Hunter White Safe Spring Break Endowment. Any gift you make to this campaign will go directly to the endowment, ensuring that future UA students will benefit from this program for years to come. The Hunter White Memorial Fund was sponsored through Hunter's Runners, which was established in 2002 as tribute to Hunter White who died in a spring break accident in 2001, Hunter was a Greek undergraduate student at the University of Arizona and was only 19 when he passed away.

The brothers from the University of Arizona collegiate chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon have generously donated a $10,000 match for any incoming gifts we receive during this campaign, so now is the time to give.
