High school/community college educators inform and inspire the next generation, yet often they are underprepared to teach about global issues. The University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Center for Latin American Studies have created a weekend workshop "Exploring Identities in the Middle East and Latin America," but underpaid educators from outside the Tucson area need your help so that they can attend.
The workshop will begin with a Friday evening talk that is free and open to the public. (The talk, "So Far From Allah, So Close to Mexico" by Historian Theresa Alfaro Velcamp will address Middle Eastern immigration into Mexico in the 20th century.) Educators will then participate in panel discussions on gender, ethnic, and religious identities in several world areas, cultural activities, and a session outlining teaching projects. Your support will provide travel scholarships allowing educators outside of the Tucson area to participate. You can help educate and inspire a group of dedicated high school/community college teachers so that they can educate and inspire the future generation of global citizens.
