Greeks Redefining Excellence and Traditions (GREAT) Greek Weekend is a two-day leadership development retreat for fraternity & sorority emerging leaders. The retreat provides student leaders the opportunity to understand their personal values and leadership styles through various activities including outdoor experiential activities. Being a part of a healthy and successful Greek community increases student retention and graduation rates, and improves their overall UA experience!
What will your support do?
The mission of GREAT Greek Weekend (GGW) is to provide chapter members with an opportunity to learn more about themselves, to develop leadership and lifetime skills, and to become effective change agents and visionaries through collaborating with other Greeks. By making a gift to help fund Great Greek Weekend, you are making a difference in programing for young leaders and helping them develop their leadership skills to improve their chapter and the entire Greek community. The retreat helps future leaders! With more than 5,000 students in the community, and chapter sizes ranging from 3 to 313, chapter leaders need to understand and engage in building a successful and strong community.
Your donation will help cover transportation, food, and lodging for participants. The cost per person is $125, and last year 24 chapters were represented at the weekend. With scholarships available we will be able to increase the number of groups in attendance. Your support will allow any organization to participate regardless of their financial position.
GREAT Greek Weekend in the fall semester of 2015 was a success. Throughout the weekend, the 61 participants were able to develop and understand their leadership styles in hopes of coming back to campus and creating a positive Greek environment at the university. The students evaluated the program, and feedback shows that they particularly enjoyed the Privilege Walk and Values & Congruence activities. The Privilege Walk allowed students to better understand discrimination and privilege and how it may affect the Greek experience for members. With Values & Congruence, the students were challenged to consider whether or not their own attitudes and behaviors aligned with the values and beliefs of their organizations. Overall, participants said they looked forward to becoming more involved with the community to help move it forward on a path towards excellence.
A gift of this amount will provide snacks for four participants - keeping them fueled for the fun experience!
A gift of this amount will fund one participant's UA Challenge Course Fee, a leadership building activity!
A gift of this amount will supply all participants with a self-assessment tool to learn more about their own leadership style!
A gift of this amount will sponsor one participant's lodging and transportation (2 days, 1 night) and 3 meals!
A gift at this amount covers the entire weekend retreat for one student! Please check the updates tab for a list of chapters that have committed to sending emerging leaders if they are sponsored by you!
