Fuel the Response for Arizona Students

One year ago we launched the Fuel the Response campaign to help University of Arizona students impacted by COVID-19. In response, our community came together in an unprecedented way with more than 1,500 supporters contributing to help provide emergency aid to 4,169 students.

"I lost my part-time position during the height of the pandemic. Thanks to you, I was able to focus on my schoolwork and finished strong with a 4.0 GPA for the semester.” – Kevin C. ’20, support recipient

This fund made it possible for me to keep my apartment while searching for a new job. If I hadn’t received this funding, I would have had no choice but to move back to my home state until things settled down.” – Graduate Student, Public Health

In addition to safeguarding students against withdrawal from school due to sudden emergency or crisis, the Fuel the Response campaign has also:

  • Helped lower-income students persist. Pell student recipients consisted of nearly half of all Student Emergency Fund recipients (48%)
  • Supported the academic success of diverse student bodies, such as Latinx and African American students. Latinx (32%) and African American (6%) Student Emergency Fund recipients are overrepresented within Student Emergency Funds compared to the UA population (24% and 4% respectively)
  • Provided the Campus Pantry with funding to meet growing demands. Currently, the Campus Pantry is serving over 750 students per week and distributes an average of 1,385 pounds of food a day

Today, we’re once again seeing a rise in the number of Student Emergency Fund applicants. There’s also an increased need for Counseling and Psych Services (CAPS). In a recent survey, preliminary data shows 72% of students indicated an increase in depression, anxiety and stress due to COVID-19.

While the success of last year’s campaign has helped a lot of students, we’re looking to replenish our funds and do even more this year. Check out last year's Fuel the Response campaign and all of our supporters here
