Cooper Center for Environmental Learning 2019

It’s All About Connections

One of the core concepts we teach kids at Camp Cooper is that everything in an ecosystem is connected. Small changes have far-reaching effects and make the difference between a system that fails or thrives.

We’re honored to have been part of the education ecosystem in Southern Arizona for nearly 60 years, serving students through connections with teachers, other nonprofits and all of the supporters who make our programs possible.

Why Crowdfunding?

Every year, we diligently pursue grants to help fund operations and facilities. We’re proud to have won the trust of many of the philanthropies we’ve asked for help. But most of all, we’re proud of the support we see from individuals like you in this annual, one-month crowdfunding campaign.

For the past three years, we’ve seen the community come together to pool their funds and send a clear message to our schools:

We want kids to connect with nature. We want them to understand ecology. We want them to grow up as environmentally responsible citizens of our planet.

And we believe that Camp Cooper is the best place in Southern Arizona to help make that happen!

Can You Help Us Connect?

This year we again want to raise $30,000 so that we can continue to underwrite field trip costs for struggling schools. But just as importantly, we hope to make new connections. We’ve set a goal of reaching 250 donors -- more than ever before -- to take a stand for environmental learning.

Thank you for your gift, and please help us reach new supporters by telling at least one friend or family member about Camp Cooper on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or by emailing this sharable link: http://bit.ly/2ODJc0V

Your Gift Helps Underserved Students

In 2019, we'll bring more than 3,000 students to learn at Camp Cooper -- not just from TUSD, but all across the Tucson valley. Ninety percent of the schools that visit are Title 1 schools serving lower-income families.

These are not kids who get to visit national parks or go off to camp in the summer. For most of them, a trip to Camp Cooper will be their only chance to learn about nature up-close and outdoors, guided by smart, passionate staff and UA students training to be tomorrow’s educators.

About the Cooper Center

The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning, which many of you know as “Camp Cooper” is an incredible educational partnership between the University of Arizona College of Education and Tucson Unified School District (TUSD).

Since 1964, more than 130,000 kids have walked our trails, engaged in hands-on learning about our desert plants and animals as a way to explore broader concepts in science and better understand how all of us impact our the planet. We are the rare "residential (overnight) camp" in Southern Arizona, just 20 minutes from downtown Tucson.

  • We give education majors and other students at the UA opportunities to work with kids and teach in an outdoor setting, inspiring them to seek out careers in the field.
