For five years, Honors Alternative Spring Break (HASB) has been sending bright, ambitious students around the country to immerse themselves in service-learning opportunities. HASB has traveled far and wide across the United States, but this year, we decided to bring it back home. With great excitement, we will focus on our community right here in Tucson!
Whether we are born-and-raised Tucsonans or out-of-state students, Tucson is our home and we're eager to become a bigger part of our community. In 2015, CBS News ranked Tucson as the 5th poorest city in the US. Today, that poverty rate has dropped, but still remains above the national average. We are eager to learn how to make a difference. During this one-week trip, we will be focusing on homelessness through the lens of public health. By volunteering with various local organizations, we will be able to truly understand and appreciate all Tucson has to offer, as well as what we can offer in return. In order to make this journey all that it can be, we need your help! We appreciate your support in making this service-learning opportunity possible!
We will be keeping journals during the trip. Purchase journals for two students!
