Help The Bio/Diversity Project foster more diverse and inclusive environmental fields and organizations!
The Bio/Diversity Project fosters the development of the next generation of environmental science educators, scientists, and leaders committed to diversity and inclusion.
In our first 4 years of programming, we've provided over 1,500 K-12 students with culturally responsive environmental science educational opportunities, 125 UArizona students with training and mentorship and transitioned 17 former interns into paid positions with local environmental and diversity-focused organizations.
Over 600 K-12 students
19 UArizona students who are participating in our remote internship program and delivering weekly online environmental science lessons
2 UArizona students who provide critical support to our remote internship program through their capacity as intern support specialists
4 UArizona students who are participating in our newest program: The Bio/Diversity Project Leadership Program
Through this paid leadership program, UArizona students engage in monthly workshops in order to develop and implement campus or community projects that engage UArizona students and the greater Tucson community around issues of sustainability, biodiversity, and gender and racial equity within environmental fields.
Through this crowdfunding campaign, our goal is to continue to address inequity and under-representation within the environmental sciences by increasing access to paid positions for diverse and underrepresented UArizona students within environmental fields – especially BIPOC, women, lower-income students, and first generation college students. Any funds procured through the crowdfunding campaign will tremendously help us increase our capacity to expand The Bio/Diversity Project programming to an even larger audience in order to have a greater impact on UArizona students and the local Tucson community.
The Bio/Diversity Project is a collaboration between UArizona's Women in Science and Engineering Program and Saguaro National Park/The Friends of Saguaro National Park, with additional support provided by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and faculty and staff from over 17 different UArizona Departments. WISE is housed in the Southwest Institute for Research on Women in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
