Arizona Wildcat Hockey Needs Your Support

Since 1978, the Arizona Wildcat Hockey program (known as the IceCats until 2011) has delighted hockey fans of all ages and given them something truly unexpected - premier collegiate hockey in the middle of a desert! From twenty-one straight national tournament appearances and a national championship in 1985 to back-to-back Western Conference Hockey League (WCHL) championships in 2019 & 2020, winning has been a tradition in Tucson.

More impressive is the fact that Arizona Wildcat Hockey has achieved this success without existing as an NCAA sport at the University of Arizona. We are a club program, competing with other club programs around the country in Division 1 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). We receive no direct support from the university or athletics, and during normal times (pre-pandemic) only a limited amount of direct support from our sponsoring organization, Campus Recreation. The rest of the funding for the club's expenses comes from player dues, sponsorships by local businesses and community members, and the generosity of donors like you. Even basic needs, such as hockey sticks, skates and other equipment, are paid for by the student-athletes and their families.

As the years have passed, the expenses for operating a premier hockey club have increased significantly. Combined with the lost income from games not played during the pandemic, a more competitive hockey landscape in Tucson and a decline in available sponsorship dollars, the cost of keeping Arizona Wildcat Hockey in the upper echelon of ACHA Division 1 teams is nearly unsustainable.

This is why we need you.

A donation to Arizona Wildcat Hockey keeps us on the winning path and allows for additional future investments in the program:

  • The addition of a women's club hockey team and a men's ACHA Division 2 team
  • Additional coaching staff for all programs
  • Scheduling other premier programs from the Midwest and East Coast that incur greater travel expenses
  • Basic needs for players, including sticks and skates
  • Adding additional technology and software to support film sessions, scouting and player evaluations
  • Creating a more robust fan experience on game days

The premier teams we compete with have deep fan bases, strong alumni and major community benefactors that support their programs. To continue to compete with them, we need your support today. We know you clicked on this campaign because you are a fan of Arizona Wildcat Hockey and want to see the program be successful. There has never been a more important time to show your appreciation for decades of excellence than now!

We've suggested some giving levels for this campaign, big and small, that reflect significant moments in Arizona Wildcat Hockey history. Choose one of those or enter your own donation amount. Every single contribution helps us to remain competitive and meet our goals, and is greatly appreciated by every player, coach and staff member involved with the program.

And, if you can't support us with a donation at this time, we understand. We hope you will still come out and support the team at our remaining home games at the Tucson Convention Center. Visit the TCC Box Office or call 520.791.4101 for tickets.

Bear Down and thank you!

$15

Enthusiastic Rookie

Anthony Cusanelli, wearing number 15 for the Wildcats, was the first Arizona freshman to be named an ACHA 1st-team All-American in 2018.

$30

Team Member

The club team is allowed to carry 30 active players on its roster for each game. Those young men in jackets and ties in the stands that look like hockey players? They're injured, making grades or waiting for their shot!

$58

Lifelong Fan

The voice of Arizona Wildcat Hockey and the program's biggest fan was Tim Gassen, a local media specialist, broadcaster and hockey fanatic. Tim passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2019, at the age of 58. He is deeply missed by the Arizona Wildcat Hockey family.

$114

Top Scorer

Kelly Walker, the most decorated player in Arizona Wildcat Hockey history, scored 114 points (45 goals and 69 assists), the most ever by a Wildcat, in just 28 games during the 1991-1992 season.

$300

League MVP

Three different Wildcats won the Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) Most Valuable Player award from 2018-2020: Anthony Cusanelli, Bayley Marshall and Anthony Ciurro. The team was WCHL champions in 2019 & 2020.

$751

Team Sponsor

The hockey program has won 751 games in its history, through the end of the 2021-2022 season. We need your support to keep adding to that win total and staying in the hunt for a championship each year.

$2,025

Major Benefactor

We know it's a long shot (see what we did there?) but we have to try. Arizona Wildcat Hockey is scheduled to move into a brand-new Iceplex in 2025 at the Kino Sports Complex, where the men's and women's programs will enjoy first-class facilities, priority for scheduling and a dedicated home for players and staff. A gift at this level goes a long way towards keeping Arizona Wildcat Hockey one of the premier programs in the ACHA!
