Hello New Start Family, Friends, and Supporters!
First and foremost, a big THANK YOU! We are thrilled to share that last week, we surpassed our initial fundraising goal of $5,000 for Academic Conference scholarships! Tomorrow our event kicks off, and we are very excited to see what our students have been working on and what they will present with their peers.
This is even more exciting because the initial $5,000 has a match! We are immeasurably grateful to Reuben Carranza, B.S. in Business Administration and New Start class of '90 alumnus, and his husband Jim Hoffbauer!
In the meantime, we have implemented a stretch goal and are aiming for an additional $1,000 to support our winning students. We are about $200 away! Can we hit this by Friday and make it an even $6,000 for our campaign? Every dollar and every share helps! Students can use these funds for books, food, and other necessities in the fall semester. We hope that this conference also gives them great experience for future research and presentations. Two alumni have chimed in on how the Academic Conference was a benefit to them in their college career:

I also valued the push into the realities of college-level presentations. Good morning!
It is the second week of New Start 2022, and just like our students, the scholarship campaign for the Academic Conference is off to a strong start! As of today, we are at 41% of our goal and we have about 3 weeks to go!
Last week, students participated in a kickoff event in beautiful ENR2. They enjoyed some light refreshments, listened to our Academic Coordinators explain more about the conference, and had the chance to begin forming their groups and thinking about their topics. The photo for this update was taken by Morgan Willenbring, an English tutor on staff this year.
As we continue to raise funds for scholarships, I have an exciting update! A generous donor has offered to MATCH your total contributions up to $5,000! That means if we hit our goal, we will have a grand total of $10,000 in scholarships to share with the winning presenters! Let us keep the momentum going and use our voices to share this campaign far and wide.
