Join us in celebrating 15 years of growth, learning and community engagement at Tucson Village Farm. From the very first seeds planted, our programming has flourished, expanding to include culinary education, a thriving 4-H teen program with nearly 200 active members, consistent school-field trips, exciting outdoor adventures, an engaging preschool curriculum, community events and even an emerging art program. We've dedicated ourselves to fostering life and leadership skills in young people, but our journey is far from over, and we need your help to make our latest dream come true!
Through consistent evaluation and participant feedback, we hear time and time again that our chickens are a cherished favorite among our youth - a testament to the magic of connecting young minds with life itself!
The young people we serve and their families have consistently asked for the addition of animals to our farm. In our 15th year, that dream is finally coming true; incorporating livestock into TVF's suite of agricultural and culinary programming will allow us to finally close the loop on our seed-to-table education and small-scale community-based farm model that we have grown from seed over the past 15 years!
With your support, we hope to raise $324,000 to construct an Animal Education Center that will house goats, chickens and sheep, and provide us with another indoor learning space. In just a few short months, we are already well beyond the half-way mark and we only need about $70,000 to make our dream a reality.
Our decision to introduce animal husbandry is not at all aimed at promoting or participating in animal agriculture for meat consumption. Rather, our focus is on the broader benefits that caring for animals can bring to our community and young participants.
Our efforts in animal husbandry primarily revolve around fostering a sense of responsibility among youth. Our animals will promote mental well-being and provide opportunities for artistic expression through wool-related art programs. We’ll also use their milk for the creation of cheese and soaps, providing even more opportunities for enrichment and skill building. These initiatives are all aligned with our mission to provide valuable learning experiences for youth that encompass various aspects of sustainable and healthy living.
