Description
The Department of Family & Community Medicine is excited to continue to celebrate and recognize the service and impact the Dr. Augusto Ortiz Mobile Health Program has provided to the local community as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. In the five decades the Mobile Health Program has been serving southern Arizona, it has seen over 100,000 patients, helped delivered over 400 babies, and provided free physicals and immunizations to Arizonans without insurance.
The Mobile Health Program (MHP) was established in 1976 as a free, mobile clinic for uninsured and low-income patients in Southern Arizona, staffed by Family Medicine physicians and residents. In 2003, the Mobile Health Prenatal Clinic (MPC) was launched to address emerging regional maternal health disparities and expanded again in 2020 to meeting increasing community needs.
Beyond medical care, the program provides integrated community support for social drivers of health by employing a community health worker who connects patients to essential resources such as food, housing, and transportation.
With your help, our goal this Fall is to keep the Mobile Health Program up and running for another 50 years and another 100,000 Arizonans served. Just $10,000 will provide 1,000 free clinics to those in need. Give today!
