Millions of Americans have and continue to live with mental health issues and many have been forced to conceal their struggle due to a culture that rejects and stigmatizes attention to mental health. Since its inception, Text, Talk, Act has sought to create a safe space where discussions about mental health could take place without fear. By bringing meaningful and transparent dialogue to this issue which is often left in the shadows, Text, Talk, Act provides a venue for expression and reflection; it changes lives.
We ask for your help to bring Text, Talk, Act to more Americans this fall, by supporting this campaign. All gifts will go directly to Text, Talk, Act and your support will help provide:
How Text, Talk, Act works:
Participants gather in small groups and using one cell phone, begin by texting the word "START" to the number 89800. Discussion questions are then texted to the phone and the group responds with multiple choice answers or group discussion. The program allows participants to have the discussion with the people they feel most comfortable with -- which is important for such a personal topic. The experience takes about an hour and at the end, participants are more informed on matters of mental health and are given additional resources. Anyone can participate in the conversation, which will take place this fall on October 5, 6 and November 10.
