We have three days left to raise the remaining 45% of our goal.
Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared our campaign. Our program paves the way for young individuals to reach their highest athletic and academic abilities:
“After my accident part of my recovery plan was to get involved in the UA Adaptive Athletic Program at the Disability Resource Center. I didn’t know what to expect when I thought about competing in sports after my accident. I just wasn’t sure how athletic my “new” body would allow me to be. I was amazed the first time I saw the Quad-Rugby team play; it is a very fast hard-hitting sport! I was very nervous starting out, but as I progressed I realized that I had the potential to become a competitive athlete once again. It also gave me the motivation and the opportunity to finish getting my degree.” - Jeff Odom, Student Veteran
Please share this campaign and help us reach our goal!
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has donated and shared this campaign so far. Here's a message from current Wheelchair Men's Basketball Player and Psychology Student Jessie Robinson:
"Before my accident I loved Basketball. I played basketball almost every hour of the day. After I got hurt I never dreamed of playing basketball again, but once I got to play wheelchair basketball, I loved it. Seeing how competitive it is here I became addicted to the sport. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and want to eventually become an occupational therapist. I was about 16 years old when I suffered a spinal chord injury. I am better for it. I was on the wrong path, but my injury put me on a better path. A path to a career.
No one is as helpful as the people are here at the University of Arizona. The program has provided me with resources not only to become a better athlete, but to help me pursue my degree. It's not always about sports. They help you figure out how to pay for school and how to live life with a disability. Seeing how much this program has done for me and everything they have done with funding it really saved my life. It made life easier. I could've been in a dark place if it wasn't for this program and makes me want to work hard to help another individual like myself. Thank you to everyone who has donated to us."
We are in week three of our campaign with more than halfway to go. Thank you to all who have donated and shared our campaign on their social media thus far.
By donating to our campaign, you are paying for an athlete's equipment costs for both their sports chair and everyday chair. This also allows us to keep our labor costs low for our community members who need work done on their everyday chairs.
Please consider donating or sharing this campaign if you haven't done so already. Check out the video below to take a look at what it's like to play wheelchair rugby!
We are almost 35% to our goal with 28 days left! Thank you to everyone who has donated to us thus far.
Our program provides an avenue for athletes to achieve the highest level of athletic performance - the Paralympics - and obtain a college education. Here is a message on what our program did for former Track Athlete and UA Graduate Cheri Blauwet:
"It is impossible to summarize the enormous effect the DRC has had on my education at the UA. There are countless examples of how the DRC staff members have demonstrated that they are dedicated to helping me succeed. My time as a participant of the University of Arizona Adaptive Athletics Program was truly the boost that brought my athletic career to the next level of excellence. Having grown up in rural Iowa, I knew I wanted to compete, but had no idea what potential lied in store. When I arrived in Tucson I suddenly had access to coaching and fellow athletes to chase around the track, not to mention limitless academic opportunities. I went from an average racer to a Paralympic Champion, from a whimsical pre-med student to a future doctor at Stanford University School of Medicine, and from an unsure teenager to a confident adult, proud of my identity as a person with a disability. I will always remember the U of A as a place where my dreams became reality."
Dr. Blauwet is a three-time Paralympian in track and field, accomplished medical doctor, chairs the International Paralympic Medical Committee, serves as a member of the International Olympic Committee Medical and Scientific Expert Group, and has most recently been added as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Your contribution is MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Thank you!
Just one week into our campaign, and we are almost a quarter of the way to our goal! Thank you all so much for your support of UA Adaptive Athletics. The 2017-2018 athletic season has officially begun and our athletes are hard at work, determined to come on top this season.
With the funding we have received so far, we are able to purchase 30 sets of tires for our athletes' sports chairs. Each player averages about 3-5 sets of tires each season. Athletes chairs go through intense contact five days a week for practice and tournaments. Maintaining them is crucial to the athlete's success and health. With your donation, we are able to make sure our athletes have the resources necessary to reach their highest potential of competition.
On behalf of all of our athletes, THANK YOU! Please continue in helping us by sharing this campaign on your social media pages to expand our reach.
