Honors Alternative Spring Break: San Diego, CA
Honors Alternative Spring Break (HASB) is a program run through the Honors College at the University of Arizona. The program gives 10 honors students the opportunity to travel outside of Tucson, to new communities where, through different partnerships, we work to accomplish service goals and develop our personal knowledge of not only the causes we are helping, but the communities we are working in. Such an experience provides first-hand experience in civic engagement for students, and teaches trip participants different ways they can lead lives as responsible citizens.
This year, our trip is headed to San Diego, California, where we will specifically be working with organizations whose focus lies within the environment and ecology. The goal of our trip is to learn more about conservation and the environment through service.
We will be partnering with the Scripps Institution for Oceanography, the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, as well as the San Diego Rescue Mission, to name a few.
HASB is a remarkable experience that leaves each trip participant with unique memories and lessons they can apply in their everyday lives. Many Honors alumni have described their trips as rewarding, eye-opening, and life-altering. Students who participated frequently re-apply for HASB trips the following year, as trip leaders, so that they may help facilitate the same amazing opportunity for other students.
