Since 2011 the crew of In the Americas with David Yetman has completed seventy one-half hour episodes. These programs have ranged from southern Chile to Alaska, with a special emphasis on Latin America. In addition to the United States, we have filmed in Argentina, Bonaire, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad, and Uruguay. Our crew of two, plus an audio engineer, usually a local sound expert, has been able to accomplish this because of our ability to travel lightly and our multicultural tools and mobility that allow us to fit into a multiplicity of physical and cultural environments. Our programs are the recipients of several Emmy awards.
Our bare-bones financing has allowed us to produce programs on budgets that producers of other PBS series view with incredulity: We produce ten programs each year on a budget of about $225,000. We have been able to stretch underwriting into multiple seasons. We carefully review our program destinations for local connections that will minimize costs, and we seek novel arrangements to cut travel expenses. At present, we have managed to film and edit five programs for season eight, but find ourselves about $90,000 short of our necessary budget. We solicit your support to raise this amount, which will permit us to complete Season Eight, including programs in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, the Atacama Desert in Chile, and city of Manaus on the Brazilian Amazon River and the rain forests that lie to the north.
Thank you for considering a gift.
Sincerely,
In the Americas with David Yetman, the HDTV series by multiple Emmy Award-winning producer & director Dan Duncan and internationally renown writer, host and producer David Yetman, takes a fresh look at the lands that make up much of the Western Hemisphere. Each country contains landscapes, peoples, and history that have not received the attention they deserve on the world stage. In the Americas with David Yetman undertakes a new approach to travel and adventure.
We show the histories of natives and immigrants, islanders and mainlanders, rural folk and city-dwellers. In the Americas with David Yetman undertakes a new approach to travel and adventure—with a decided bias in favor of our western continents and islands. So come along and visit new places, meet new people, and encounter new ideas with host David Yetman.
In the Americas with David Yetman is an initiative of The Southwest Center, The University of Arizona. The Southwest Center seeks to define, illuminate, and present, through research, teaching, and publishing, the character of the Greater Southwest: the heartland of Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora, and Chihuahua, and its peripheries.
We invite you to view the programs on this website free of charge.
