Thank you for making children’s health care a priority with support of Eat Dessert First Day.
Every year, approximately 10,000 children under the age of 15 are diagnosed with cancer. In our community, close to 65 children are admitted for cancer treatment each year. No matter what the statistic, we know that it is TOO many. No family or child should have to face this devastating disease.
Because of donors like you who are fueling critical research, now more than 80% of children diagnosed with cancer survive. However, cancer still remains the second leading cause of death in children. That is why your gifts and hard work are vital to continue pediatric cancer research with the goal of new and less toxic treatments. You are fueling the Steele Center’s pediatric cancer research team and together, we are developing better therapies for children with cancer. With the support of our community, we can get there!

Make children’s health a priority in our community!
Every year, approximately 10,000 children under the age of 15 are diagnosed with cancer. In Southern Arizona, about 65 children are diagnosed with cancer every year.
Because of advances over the past few decades, more than 80% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. However, survival rates vary depending on the kind of cancer the child has and other variables.
Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in children (after accidents), so it is vital that more research is conducted in pediatric cancer so new and less toxic treatments can be developed. The Steele Center pediatric cancer research team is focused on developing better therapies for children with cancer.

Happy Birthday to Dana, our dear friend and cancer warrior! We are fighting the good fight in your honor to make sure other kids with cancer have a chance to survive and thrive.
If you’re eating dessert first in honor of Dana, she would have turned 13 this year, please consider a donation of $13 or more. This year’s proceeds will support pediatric cancer research initiatives at Steele Children’s Research Center located at the University of Arizona.
Tomorrow, April 21st, would be Dana’s 13th Birthday! Please join us in honoring memory!
Eat Dessert First Day (EDFD) honors Dana’s palpable enthusiasm for life, her appreciation for the fun that comes from doing the unexpected, and the tremendous importance she placed on spending time with family and friends. While inspired by Dana, EDFD is in honor of all childhood cancer warriors and the parents who go to bed each night praying that research will find treatments that enable their precious children to survive and thrive.

This year, the Steele Children’s Research Center celebrates 25 years of conducting groundbreaking research on many pediatric illnesses, including pediatric cancer.
In Tucson and Southern Arizona, around 65 children are diagnosed with some form of cancer, each year.
If 150 of you each gave $100, we would reach our goal of $15,000 for pediatric cancer research. Can we count on you?
Every single day, one child in our state of Arizona is diagnosed with cancer, that is 365 children and families a year! Please help us fund better treatments for our children!
Female cancer patients are in treatment for an average of 912 days, will you donate $1 for each of those days?
Male cancer patients are in treatment for an average of 1,095 days, will you donate $1 for each of those days?
