Good afternoon. We wanted to send one final email update to each of the 71 donors that supported our crowdfunding efforts with hopes of showing the impact of the College Academy for Parents' (CAP) families. In total, $10,862 were raised!
University of Arizona President, Dr. Robert Robbins, joined us at the 15th Annual CAP Graduation Celebration on Tuesday, May 1 (see video below). He had the opportunity to take a photo (see below) with the K-12 students who are children of the CAP families. While it is important for a university to bring in each year's incoming class, it is also important for the university to outreach and build our future cohorts of Arizona Wildcats! President Robbins was impressed by the educational partnership between the University of Arizona and the Sunnyside Unified School District. That evening, he committed to garnering more fiscal resources for CAP! This is the first time a university president has joined us for a CAP Graduation.
The evening was focused on the graduating parents. The families attended 12, 2-hour weekly workshops and two campus visits to the UA. The time committed by the parents was rewarded as they crossed the University of Arizona stage, received a recognition stole and a certificate of completion (see photo below). Children learned an important educational lesson as they saw their parents make and commit to the creation of a a college plan.
As families left, they were able to take home a vision of their child's future. It was a picture of each of their K-12 students dressed in a university graduation cap and gown (see below). For many of the young children, the regalia fit a little too big, but that did not matter. We know that they will grow into the caps and gowns, but more importantly we want the students to grow into the idea that college is not a dream, but instead is a plan that is supported by their family and the university.
It is this type of visioning that your donation supports. The crowdfunding dollars that were raised will help sustain the program and to enhance each future family's experience in the program. We encourage you to follow CAP on Facebook. You can also learn about other college access initiatives provided through the Office of Early Academic Outreach by visiting eao.arizona.edu.
A final thank you to Mike, Rae Ann & Jessica Morgan for their matching support in our campaign and for their willingness to engage with the families. Jessica enthusiastically captured the photo of the President and Future Wildcats, this year's Graduation Cohort, and each of the Future Graduate portraits.
With sincere gratitude,
Rudy & Janette
We are so excited!!
On Sunday evening, our College Academy for Parents crowdfunding campaign succeeded in raising enough funds to exceed our goal of $5,000 in contributions. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we also had a village-like support from nearly 70 donors. We also were able to maximize $5,000 in match from the Morgan Family that has allowed us to, in total, have raised over $10,000 of funding that will support the College Academy for Parents, and the families that the program serves. Our sincere thank you to Mike, Rae Ann and Jessica Morgan for their generous support of both this crowdfunding campaign and other college access initiatives out of Early Academic Outreach.
"I am proud of the fact that we have multiple programs to support first-generation students, including a College Academy for Parents." University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Robbins, Installation Speech, November 2017.
Coupled with the excitement of meeting our collective crowdfunding goal, we are excited because Tuesday, May 1st will be our 15th Annual Graduation Celebration for the College Academy for Parents! One hundred and fourteen parents representing 69 families will be recognized at the University of Arizona as they successfully complete the 12-week program! Much more than the completion of the program, we celebrate each family's commitment to a college plan for their children, as early as elementary school. We are excited to announce that UA President, Dr. Robert Robbins, will also be congratulating the families at the event.
If your schedule allows, we would love to have you join us! We hope to see some of you there.
Again, our sincere appreciation to each of you for your support!

This second update is to once again say THANK YOU!!! to each of you that have chosen to give towards our College Academy for Parents (CAP) crowdfunding campaign. Our goal is $5,000 and we are 69% of the way there. We remain looking forward and are optimistic that we will hit our goal prior to May 1st, but we also wanted to take the moment to say, "Thank you!" with a short and fun video below. It is a reminder that today's youngest of youth are tomorrow's college scholars and your contributions, and those that we know will continue to come in, will help us ensure that more families develop college plans for their children through their participation in CAP.
We also want to thank Mike, Rae Ann and Jessica Morgan! They have been great supporters of the work of Early Academic Outreach and generously have provided a match for all dollars raised through the campaign. The family recently shared the crowdfunding effort with their family, friends, and colleagues, many of which had the opportunity to learn about the program and decided to support the cause. This new set of supporters have helped us chug along toward our goal and we are most appreciative!
Continue to share the crowdfunding link (http://crowdfund.arizona.edu/cap) with your social networks and don't forget to like our College Academy for Parents Facebook page.
We look forward to the next update!!

Thank you everyone for helping us to reach 39% of our crowdfunding goal so far! We are so grateful for your generosity in giving and in sharing how you have interacted with the College Academy for Parents (CAP) and how the program has impacted you and others. While we began with the intent of raising dollars for the program, we are now seeing the crowdfunding campaign as an opportunity to engage others in remembering their connection to CAP. In our work of college access, it is important for us to remember our commitment to the fundamental value that a college education should be available to everyone. And for those of us that have had the privilege to make that college dream a reality by earning a degree, it is an opportunity for us to think about how we give back. Whether through donation, advocacy or introducing a family to financial aid, we hope to bring about an awareness that there is still much more work to be done in college access, and many more families to serve.
We encourage you to keep connected with the program by liking our College Academy for Parents Facebook page. We will be posting near-daily on the crowdfunding campaign. Feel free to like and share posts as a way of continuing to encourage others to give.
We look forward to the next update and reporting on how much closer we will be to our goal!!!
Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Rudy & Janette

Each family commits to attend 24 hours of workshops to build upon their existing college knowledge as they interact with UA faculty, staff and students.
Helps to employ a UA student for one week as a College Camp Leader. In total, 11 students work for 12 weeks with the elementary school students in College Camp.
Provides 10 families an interaction with a famous author AND each family leaves with at least 5 books to add to their home library. This experience is provided for all participating families.
Each year, the College Academy for Parents has 100 families commit to complete the program with the intent to create a college-plan for their elementary school-aged children.
Brings one school bus of families to the UA for a campus visit! Sixty percent of families report that this is the first time they have been to campus. Each year, the program requires 3 to 4 buses for each of the 2 campus visits.
